Another successful day of working out with the kids up and about. Yesterday, I put a movie on for them while I worked out, and had the P90X dvd in the laptop. That worked out great...today, I thought I'd experiment and have my workout going on the tv and see if they'd be able to play and be occupied on their own...not so much. So about 25 min. in, I switched it and let my son pick out a movie and I worked out on the laptop. Looks like that's the route I'm going to have to go with.
Today was Plyometrics. Seeing as how I pooped out of doing Insanity after like 3 or 4 weeks, this was tough for me. There was a couple times I had to stop before the allotted time, which made me sad. But all in all, I feel like I did pretty good. I was a big sweaty mess by the time I got done.
I did really well yesterday with the food aspect, and thus far today, I'm doing well too. I think for me, that's the toughest part. Obviously I tend to struggle at being consistent with getting my workouts in, but I REALLY struggle with not eating junk, or munching when I don't need to. My saving grace has always been that I have a job where I'm active and moving around and sweating. But I know that if I can get my eating under control, I will have a way better chance of meeting my goals. Doing the Ultimate Reset before I started P90X was great in that it really highlighted why I eat (boredom, munching with the kiddos, and finishing whatever they don't eat off their plates), and taught me that often times, I really don't need to eat when I think I do...I need to drink more water. Speaking of which, I've done a million times better at drinking water. I used to drink tons of pop at work, because it's easily accessible and free...then with the Reset, I went over a month without drinking any pop. I had a relapse in the week between doing the Reset and P90X where I had a few pops, but I really don't have the strong craving for pop anymore, which is fabulous.

Day 1
It's been quite a while since I blogged about anything, so I figured I'd give it a go again. Here's what I've been up to lately as far as trying to be healthy and fit: I just completed the Ultimate Reset. If you don't know what that is, you can click the link to learn tons about it. Basically, it's a 21 day deal that "resets" your body. It's more than just a cleanse...it's a pretty strict nutrition plan with supplements that gets your body back to functioning like it's supposed to. I will admit that I didn't stick to it 100%, but I did pretty good. After the 21 days, I was down 14 pounds and 4% body fat, which is pretty darn good. More importantly, I felt much better. I felt like I was sleeping better, which meant that when I woke up, I wasn't as groggy, which is fantastic since I stay home with the kids and I need to be alert and awake in the mornings to watch my kids. Also, I don't feel as blah anymore. That's really the best way I can put it...I just feel better, more alert, and less bloated.
So now my wife and I are starting P90X again together. The struggle I've had with working out the last year or so has been finding a time that works consistently to get my workout done. Like I said, I stay home with the kids...I also work part time in the evenings. I've tried waking up with my wife and getting my workout done then, but I'm so tired that early, it just doesn't pan out. I've tried working out when the kids are awake and it didn't really work because it was a hassle with the kids. I've tried working out when I get home from work, but I've been standing and active all night at work, so I really just want to sit. So what do I do? This time around, I've decided my best bet is to just make working out with the kids around work. I have to say, Day 1 was very encouraging in that regard. My son is almost 2 1/2 now, and he did wonderfully while I worked out...he watched The Muppets and kept looking at me saying, "Daddy X". My daughter, who will be 1 next Monday has gotten to where she can play and entertain herself pretty darn good for a while, and she did really well, rarely getting in my way. So I'm pretty confident this is going to work.
Today was Chest and Back with Ab Ripper X. I held off on doing ARX until nap time, and that worked out great. It's a little sad to see how far I've regressed, but I know I can get back to where I was and then some. At my best, in October 2010, I was 183# and 16.5% body fat. Right now I'm 210# and 24% body fat. 2 years of excuses have taken its toll and I'm ready to say ENOUGH! I have the mindset of just conquering today. I can't control what I did yesterday or what I want to do tomorrow...I can only focus on today. So today, I'm focusing on eating properly and getting my workout in. I have my goals, sure...one needs to have the goal in sight so you know what you're working towards, but I will only achieve the goal by conquering each day individually. My goals are to be down to 175# and 15% body fat. It's a pretty aggressive goal, but it's doable as long as I conquer each day. I set up my workout schedule to do P90X Doubles, which means in phases 2 and 3 I'll be doing 2 workouts at day 3 or 4 days a week...again, just conquer each day.
I'm going to try my best to include posting to my blog as part of conquering the day. I have free time while the kids are napping, so I should be able to post something everyday. Hopefully I can provide some insight/encouragement if you're looking to get healthy and fit, too :) And I don't forsee future blogs being nearly this long...
